I don't understand why this can't be scheduled with the election this fall. It seems like a waste of money to have a special election.

I support the election. I hope that a lesson has been learned from this long delayed vote. Those who attempt to block the voice of the people pay a high price. There is the cost of a special election and of the lawsuit itself (close to $100,000). In addition to the financial toll, there is the loss of trust in those who claim to have our best interests at heart. Why would you want to keep the people from voting on one of the most important issues confronting our community? Hopefully this election will help rectify this and in the future interference in the electoral process will be avoided.

The special election for citizens to vote on the petitioned ordinance to control growth in the City of Lakewood should be done as a mail in ballot. This is the most economical way to conduct this election. In recent years, I have taken great pride that citizens of Colorado ( as compared to other states in our country that make it much more difficult for citizens to vote) are able to participate in the election process through mail in ballots.

This important issue should be referred to the voters of Lakewood rather than to rely on an ordinance written by citizens. The draft ordinance was written by a narrow group of residents and may, or may not, reflect the wishes and opinions of the community at large. Since the writers of the draft ordinance were NOT elected by citizens of Lakewood, they must not be allowed to speak for the community at large without approval of all eligible voters inn the city.
